Billy Joe Murphy

Billy Joe Murphy, 75, of Beech Creek, WV passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 at his home following a lingering illness.  Born July 22, 1946 at O’Keefe, WV, he was the son of the late Kermit and Justine (Kennedy) Murphy. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Kermit Murphy Jr., Herbert “Crowbar” Murphy, and Edward Murphy; and 2 sisters, Mary K. Daniels and Phyllis Blankenship. 

Billy Joe was a disabled coal miner and a member of the North Matewan Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Isabelle (Daniels) Murphy of Beech Creek, WV; his step-sons whom he thought of as his own, Roger (Sandra) Slone and Jeff Slone both of Beech Creek, WV; 3 grandchildren, Jeremy (Brittany) Slone of Matewan, WV, Roger W. (Kim) Slone of Martinsburg, WV, and Amy Slone of Beech Creek, WV; 3 great-grandchildren, Jace, Brinley, and Beckett Slone; 1 brother, Johnny (Tammy) Murphy of Beech Creek, WV; his extended family of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law whom he loved dearly and thought of as his own brothers and sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Jess Spaulding and Bro. Jeff Slone officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cisco-Daniels Cemetery on Grapevine Fork at Beech Creek, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
