Charles L. Matney, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, age 79, of Williamson, WV passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in the emergency room at the Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center in South Williamson, KY. Born January 2, 1943 in Keen Mountain, VA, he was the son of the late Gus and Leanor Justine (Hunt) Matney.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Blackburn.
Charles was a retired laborer from the N&S Railroad and a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church. He was the ultimate family man and worked hard to provide for his family. He was an avid bowler, a wonderful cook, and he loved fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Violet Lorraine (Lloyd) Matney of Williamson, WV, his children, Rhonda (James) Pack of Mooresburg, TN, Terry (Wilma Blair) Matney of McCarr, KY, Donna (David Austin) Matney of Ransom, KY, and Vicki Matney (Daryl) Ellison of Sevierville, TN, his grandchildren, Kayla Blackburn, Jonathan Matney, Stephanie Pack, James William Pack, and Shai York, his great-grandchildren, DJ Pack, Stormy Pack, Lucas Blackburn, Linkin Blackburn, Rylie Matney, and Isabella Matney, five brother, Walter (Dorothy) Matney of Massillon, OH, Jack (Nellie) Matney of South Lyon, MI, Ronnie (Pam) Matney of Williamson, WV, Donnie (Alisha) Matney of Williamson, WV, and Eddie (Glenna) Matney of McCarr, KY, one sister, Chris (Jeff) May of Grove City, OH, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Terry “Bear” Lovell and Bro. Ronnie Matney officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV with family members serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons, DJ Pack, Lucas Blackburn, and Linkin Blackburn.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.
