Curtis Edward Smith, 67, of Hatfield, KY passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 19, 2022. Curtis was a preacher at the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church, a former coal miner, and retired from the U.S. Army as a tank instructor.
Curtis was preceded in death by his father Verlin Edward Smith, his mother, Sylvia Jude and her husband, Jack Jude, and two brothers, Harold Jude and Lynn Jude.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gustie (Marcum) Smith of Hatfield, KY, two children, Betty Jane Given of Hatfield, KY and Betty’s three children, Joe, Bradley, and Jessica Given, and William Edward Smith of Mount Sterling, KY, and William’s three children, Matthew, Daniel, and Emily Smith. Curtis is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Dennis Smith, David Smith, Robert Smith, Jerry Smith, Rick Jude, Tami (Jude) Blair, and Janice (Jude) Day, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Earl White and Bro. Mitchell Elkins officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Belfry Chapter 141 of the Disabled American Veterans. Afterwards he will be laid to rest in the Family Cemetery at Hatfield, KY.
Visitation will be Saturday evening beginning at 5:00 pm for family and friends will be received from 6-9 pm with services at 7:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel, 144 Toler Road, Belfry, KY 41514.
