Donald Eugene Runyon

Donald Eugene Runyon, 75, of Hatfield, KY passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at his home. Born November 5, 1947 in Pike County, KY, he was the son of the late Ballard “Music Man” and Geraldine (Anderson) Runyon.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents , Orison and Josie (Horn) Runyon, his maternal grandparents, William “Bill” and Mary (Elkins) Anderson, and two brothers, Carroll Keither Runyon and Ballard Charles Runyon Jr.

Eugene was a former electrician in the coal mines and retired from the railroad where he worked in the shop.  He loved animals and fishing, but one of biggest hobbies was his antique cars which he meticulously restored himself and showed at area car shows. Eugene was gifted musically and could play any instrument that he put his hands on.  He was a member of the Sidney Missionary Baptist Church and a proud member of the UMWA.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Nyoka (Sparks) Runyon of Hatfield, KY, two sons, Kevin Eugene (Mary) Runyon of Hatfield, KY and David Keith (Beverly) Runyon of Richmond, KY, his three grandsons, Kyler Runyon, Lucas Runyon, and Logan Runyon, two sisters, Karen Gaye (Frank) Charles of Columbus, OH and Judy Basler of Florida.  Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Rev. Haskell Runyon Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stepp Cemetery at Hatfield, KY with his sons, grandsons, and Gregory Maynard serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
