Elva Irene Freeman, 88, of South Williamson, KY passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at the Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center in South Williamson, KY. Born November 26, 1931 in Williamson, WV, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur Moore and Susie Crigger Moore.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Freeman, two brothers, Arnold Moore and Ed Moore, and three sisters, Beatrice Haberle, Pauline Ramey, and Connie Sanders.
Irene was valedictorian of the Williamson High School Class of 1949. Upon graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for several area businesses including City Insurance Agency, Williamson Memorial Hospital, Kermit Oil Company, and Alley Branch Coal Company. Additionally, she worked for a couple years in the library at Southern WV Community College. She was a member and attended the First Baptist Church of Williamson when her health allowed.
Survivors include her children, Susan Elaine Freeman (Greg Stallard) of Williamson, WV, John Clifford (Ramona) Freeman of Ransom, KY, and Roger Neil (Dottie) Freeman of South Williamson, KY; one sister, Ruth Moore Vernatter of Williamson, WV; five grandchildren, Dr. Kristin Michelle (Nick) Freeman of Oil Springs, KY, Elizabeth Irene (Jason) Guthrie of Grayson, KY, Samantha Renee (Chuck) Knoppe of Willisburg, KY, Jonathan Tyler Freeman of South Williamson, KY, and Allison Shae (Macky) Francis of Berea, KY; her great-grandchildren, Daniel Isaac Freeman, Cade Evan Guthrie, Zaiden Blake Guthrie, Knox Christian Guthrie, Mackenzie Shae Francis, Abby Knoppe, and Austin Knoppe.
Also surviving is a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Pastor Jarrod Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
