Gary Lee McCallister, 70, of Naugatuck, WV passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at the Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. Born June 2, 1949 at Delbarton, WV, he was the son of the late Dudley Franklin and Mildred Jean Chafin McCallister.
Gary served his country as a member of the National Guard for over 12 years. He worked for several years as a coal miner. Upon leaving the mines, he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Martin County, KY for several years, during which time he was recognized as a Hometown Hero for his efforts in saving the Martin County Courthouse from a devastating fire. He was a volunteer fireman with the Warfield Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMT First Responder. Most importantly, Gary was a Christian, being a member of the Naugatuck Church of God.
Survivors include his loving wife, Brenda Sue Rose McCallister of Naugatuck, WV; a son, Gary Steven (Marsha) McCallister of Lavalette, WV, a daughter, Sherrie Lynn (Ray) Baisden of Grove City, OH, a brother, James William (Marie) McCallister of Lenore, WV, a sister, Kay (Melvin) Coburn of LaGrange, TN; his grandchildren, Kiera Reann McCallister, Keaton Chase Baisden, and Brayden Cole Baisden, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, other family, and friends.
In accordance with the COVID-19 regulations, a graveside service was held on Friday, April 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Greenlawn Cemetery at Louisa, KY with Pastor Etsel Rose officiating and burial following. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
