Gary Steven “Butch” McCoy, Pike County Sheriff’s Department Unit #62, age 70, of Stone, KY ended his watch on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born July 15, 1951 in Pike County, KY, he was the son of the late Robert and Emogene (Moore) McCoy.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara McCoy; 2 brothers, Robert “Big Bob” McCoy and David Michael McCoy; 4 sisters, Peggy Hammond, Barbara Marcum, Deborah Hopkins, and Bonnie Salyers; and his special friend, Jackie Deskins.
Butch was a former heavy equipment operator. He served Pike County as a deputy with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department for approximately 32 years. Butch was a “people person” and he always had a kind word and a big smile for everyone.
Survivors include 2 sons, Mike (Susie) McCoy of Stone, KY and Gary (Denise) McCoy of Elberfeld, IN, 1 daughter, Barb Jordan (Donny Thacker) of Stone, KY; 2 brothers, Tommy (Judy) McCoy of Defiance, OH and Ricky (Melinda) McCoy of Wheelersburg, OH; 5 sisters, Sandy (Erchil “Doc”) Dockery of Continental, OH, Vicky Justus of Hazel Green, KY, Teresa Thrasher of Defiance, OH, Janice Rhoden and Janet (Ralph) Pack both of South Shore, KY; his grandchildren, Kerri Jordan (Ryan Stell) of Stopover, KY, Carlie (Jarred) Case of Cynthiana, KY, Gary Steven McCoy of Stone, KY, Robert Gobble and Lathan George of Stone, KY, Faith George of Floyd County, KY, and Michelle Thacker of Brookville, FL; his great-grandchildren, Macy Kay Stell of Stopover, KY, Rylynn Stell of Hardy, KY, and one on the way. Also surviving are his special cousins, Bruce (Judy) McCoy of Rawl, WV, Denny (Sharon) Moore of Forest Hills, KY, and Doug (Deb) Thomason of Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, his Pike County Sheriff’s Department and Kentucky State Police family, and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Belfry High School Auditorium with Bro. James Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with member of the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police, and other agencies serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Wednesday evening at the Belfry High School Auditorium.
