Gary Michael "Mike" Ray

Gary Michael Ray, 76, of Meador, WV passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, while inpatient at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Gary was born on August 29th, 1946, in Meador, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Monroe Ray and Mary Etta Richmond Ray. Gary is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 48 years, Goldie Ann Ray of Meador Hollow, his son Joseph and daughter-in-law Brittney Ray of Georgetown, Kentucky, and two grandsons who brought him so much joy, Asher Michael Ray and Axel Monroe Ray. In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his brothers Monroe Junior Ray and William Iager Ray and his sisters Linda Sue Dawson, Stella Kennedy, Norma Grace Mounts, Deloris Rodinelli, and Sally Sheiffler. Gary is survived by a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly as he loved them. He is also survived by special friends Terry Steele, Craig Steele, and Phillip Justice, who were like brothers to him.

Gary was of the Church of Christ faith and loved to read his bible every night. He was a coal miner for twenty years and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. Gary, known to his loved ones as “Mike,” took pleasure in the simple things in life. He loved a good cup of coffee, sitting on his porch, and being with his wife, whom he adored, Goldie. His son Joe was the light of his life, and he enjoyed every moment spent with his grandsons. Mike loved his family and his friends and would do anything he could to help them. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

In honoring Mike’s wishes, cremation will take place.  A simple memorial gathering to inter the cremains will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm a the Daniels & Cisco Cemetery on Grapevine Fork at Beech Creek, WV with Jeff Slone speaking.
