George Eugene Blackwell departed this world on January 18, 2024, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY at the age of 80 years. He lived with his loving sister Janet Blackwell- Powers before transitioning to eternal rest after an unexpected illness.
George was a faithful, lifelong member of Christ Temple Church and Bethel Temple Assembly Church. He served in many capacities, including the Prison Ministry. George was active and was well-known throughout the City of Williamson, WV. He visited the sick, provided spiritual guidance to many, offered God’s Word, and studied the bible with everyone that would listen.
George was born February 7, 1943, to the late James T. Blackwell and Ida Mae Artis-Blackwell in Williamson, West Virginia. He lived a life filled with loving family and friends. Enjoyed studying the bible and sharing God’s word. He cared very deeply for his family, friends, and community.
George is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Johnson, his father James T Blackwell, Mother Ida Mae Artis- Blackwell, Brothers: Ronald A. Blackwell, and William Summers, sister, Linda Kaye Summers, and daughter Sandra Johnson.
George married Kathleen Johnson in 1975 in Williamson, WV. They were blessed with one daughter and stepdaughter which they adored. He loved his grandchildren Christopher Carter II, Arman Thornton and Oren Thornton, Jason Johnson, (Stacy) and Katelyn (Ronald) Linville, and great-grandchildren Titan Linville, and soon-to-be-born Saturn Linville. His family will greatly miss his spiritual guidance, love, and support.
George began his education at Liberty Elementary and High School in Williamson, West Virginia. With a strong work ethic, worked at the Mingo County Mines and Columbia Gas Company until his retirement.
George leaves cherished memories, to his loving daughter Gina Blackwell, Sisters: Mary Hinton, Tarboro, NC; Janet Blackwell- Powers, Spring Valley, NY; Nancy Horton, Danville, VA; Marilyn Neal, Reidsville, NC; Alice Faye Matlock, Columbus, Ohio; and Beatrice Harris, Long Island, NY; Brothers: James J Blackwell Gwynn Oaks, MD; Earl Blackwell, Spring Valley, NY; Henry Blackwell, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Michael Blackwell, Pearland, TX; Charles Blackwell, Phoenix, Arizona; Jerry Blackwell, New York, NY; Special Cousins Carole Artis, Paul Joyce and host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, countless relatives and friends; a great close friend Ronnie Matney.
Homegoing services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV.
Viewing will begin at 10:00 am Wednesday at the church.
