George Washington Whitt Jr., 78, of Thomasville, NC formerly of McCarr, KY passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC. Born September 15, 1946 at Ransom, KY, he was the son of the late George W. and Ruby Harris Whitt Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Gail Whitt, a son, Lucas Ray Whitt, two sisters, Loretta Smith and Mary Dotson, and a great aunt, Mary Smith.
His brother, Clarence Whitt, passed away on February 17, 2025
George was a former coal miner, loved to play music, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Penny Whitt (Chuck Mayes) of Sherrills Ford, NC, granddaughter, Frances Nicole Sipper (Corey) Sipper of Gastonia, NC, a great grandchild, Josiah Johnston of Gastonia, NC, two brothers, Elmer Whitt of Monticello, KY, and George William “June Bug/Cornbread” (Tammy) Whitt of McCarr, KY, like a sister, Daryl Smith (Doug Blackburn) of Ransom, KY, a “special sister”, Angela (James) Morris of Sidney, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Bro. Mike Smith and Bro. Robert Stump officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitt Family Cemetery at Ransom, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of service Tuesday.
