Homer Ray Preece Obituary

DUE TO AREA FLOODING, GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR HOMER RAY PREECE SCHEDULED FOR 12:00 TODAY HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 1:00 PM THIS AFTERNOON!!!!!!

Though this home on earth provided a beautiful life, no sight is greater than the one journeyed to a heavenly home.  Homer Ray Preece, 77, of Slater’s Branch, KY was welcomed to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from the Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center in South Williamson, KY.  Born April 4, 1944 at Turkey Creek, KY, he was the son of the late Monty Sr. and Vicie Varney Preece.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jo Dingess, 2 brothers, Monty Preece Jr. and Charles Preece, and a special brother-in-law who was like a brother, Robert Ball.

Homer’s legacy was full of love, life, hard work, and pride.  What started as a business venture many years ago with his brother MacArthur Preece, Homer Ray contributed to the area mining coal for a span of approximately 40 years, along with his 2 sons, providing not only for his family, but helping and providing for many other families along the way.  Homer loved to mine coal.  He loved to tell you stories of the good old days and about the family he gained over the years, because Home didn’t just have friends, if you knew him, you were family.

From front porch sitting to riding his John Deere and tending to his garden, Homer never waivered to greet each person with a smile, a kind word, and something from his garden.  He loved to talk about his family and beamed with pride, especially for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They could bring a smile to his face even in his toughest moments.

Homer was a proud man, but no pride in Homer’s heart was greater than that of his family.  He was a selfless provider, a loving protector, and most of all, a good man.  Through all his years of mining, Homer stored his true riches in his love of the Lord.  He attended Bethel Temple Assembly of God where his heart was full of faith and less of fear.

Homer is survived by the love of his life, Sharon Fouch Preece, with whom he spent the last 55 years building his beautiful life and dear family.  Also surviving are his 2 sons, Billy Ray (Susie) Preece of Belfry, KY and Brian (Kelly) Preece of Slater’s Branch, KY, his daughter, Beth Ann Preece of Slater’s Branch, KY, 2 “special sons”, Ronnie and Donnie Matney of Williamson, WV, his grandchildren, Billy Ray (Samantha) Preece II, Brionna (Brandon) Urban, Brayden Preece, Morgan Preece, and Brian Preece II, his great-grandchildren, Myles Maynard, Elijah Preece, Ezra Preece, Marley and Bentley Urban.

Also surviving are several brothers and sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 12:00 pm at the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with Bobby Perry and Ronnie Matney officiating.  Burial will follow with family and friends serving as active pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Freddie Lewis, Mac Preece, Benjamin Dingess, Mike Marcum, Robert LeQuire, Matt Marcum, Bob Forsyth, and Steve Francis.
