JP Blankenship

JP Blankenship, 71, of Beech Creek, WV passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Pikeville Medical Center.  Born September 14, 1951 in Williamson, WV, he was the son of the late Howard and Emma Thompson Blankenship. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Cleatis Ray Blankenship, a brother, Billy Ray Blankenship, and 3 sisters, Ila Cisco, Estalene Jones, and Opal Thacker.

JP was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a member as well as a minister at the Devon Church of Christ. 

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois Jean Cantrell Blankenship of Beech Creek, WV, 2 sons, Bobby Blankenship (Crystal) of Beech Creek, WV and Terry Smith (Stephanie) of Meador, WV, 2 daughters, Tina Lawson (Kenneth) of Horsepen, WV and Charisa Buchannon (Andrew) of Baisden, WV; his grandchildren, Ashley Lawson, Daniel Lawson, James Blankenship, Dakota Blankenship, Kayla Kennedy, Whitney Smith, Leann Smith, and TJ Smith; his great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Buchannon and Noah Buchannon; 5 sisters, Nelma Ruth Estepp of Beech Creek, WV, Tina Clemons of Hardy, KY, Betty Smith of Meador, WV, Judy Kennedy of Beech Creek, WV, and Dorothy Fitch of Piqua, OH; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Owens of Vansant, VA.  Also surviving is a host of other family and friends. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Devon Church of Christ at Beech Creek, WV with Bro. Travis Simpkins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery at Beech Creek with Andrew Buchannon, Daniel Lawson, Dakota Blankenship, Bobby Blankenship, Terry Smith, and John Maynor Jr. serving as pallbearers.

Visitation for family will begin at 11:00 am Thursday and at 12:00 pm for friends at the Devon Church of Christ.
