James "Jim" Maynard Obituary

It is a deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of James “Jim” “Scratch” Maynard of Williamson, West Virginia. After a battle with cancer, he departed this life peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of March 29, 2025, at the age of 72.

Jim will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends. He leaves many behind to cherish his memory. His two children: son, Michael (Cori) Maynard of Florida; daughter, Kristy Maynard of North Carolina; two grandsons and one granddaughter. Sisters: Joann Bianco of South Williamson, Kentucky; Betty (Ross) Yahr of Morehead, Kentucky; Theresa, Maynard of Georgia; Ellen McKinney of Michigan. Uncle: George (Judy) Defoe of Williamson, West Virginia. Nephews: Adam Stubbs of South Williamson, Kentucky; Vincent Bianco of South Williamson, Kentucky; Nolan Bianco of South Williamson, Kentucky; Duston Bianco of South Williamson, Kentucky; Chris Whisenant of Louisa, Kentucky. Niece: Kristina Bianco of South Williamson, Kentucky. Great Niece, Aurora Bianco of South Williamson, Kentucky. Jim had a group of special friends who meant a lot to him: Brian Maynard, Gail Moore, Nancy Farley, Odell Davis,  the ladies at 3 Guys (Ashley, Stephanie, and especially Sara and little Olivia who made Jim smile anytime she was with him), and Tina Smith (who Jim jokingly called his “old lady”, she loved to cook for Jim almost daily and he fell in love with her food). His caregivers and best friends who became like family: James and Holly Collins.

Jim was predeceased by his brothers: Danny Maynard and Jack Maynard; sister: Brenda Whisenant; and parents: Roy and Sylvia (Defoe) Maynard.

Jim was an independent, simple man who enjoyed painting, building model cars, watching game shows, classic movies, and older westerns. He also liked to sit outside talking with friends, listening to bluegrass and country music, and spending time at 3 Guys where they made him feel right at home. Jim was a proud, well-established electrician for 25 years.

At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral services. There will be a celebration of life memorial on Saturday, April 5 at 2 PM at the park in South Williamson, KY. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Hatfield Funeral Chapel to cover cremation expenses.

Jim’s battle with cancer in recent years showed his courage and resilience in facing life's challenges. Despite the pain and struggles, he stayed strong until the very end. He took his last breath beside his caretaker and best friend. We are at peace knowing he is no longer in pain.
