James “Jimmy” Ervin VanHoose, 76, of Matewan, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday; September 17, 2025 from the Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center in South Williamson, KY. Born June 25, 1949 at Hatfield, KY, he was the son of Ruth Harrison VanHoose of Chattaroy, WV and the late James Carl “Papaw” VanHoose.
Jimmy was a former coal miner and a former truck driver for Tramco. He served on the Chattaroy Volunteer Fire Department for about 29 years. Jimmy was a devoted member of the Chattaroy Church of God for approximately 45 years where he served as a church bus driver, usher, and looking after the putt putt golf course.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Rita Watson VanHoose of Matewan, WV; his children, Dana (Kevin) Maynard of Natchitoches, LA, Christie (William) Call of Chattaroy, WV, and James Ervin (Amanda) VanHoose Jr. of Beaumont, TX; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne (fiancé Moss) Maynard, Jonah Richard Maynard, Curtis Andrew (Katie Jo) Meade, Victoria Faith Meade, Preston Blake VanHoose, and Londyn Elise VanHoose; his great-grandchildren, Irvin James Meade, Anderson Carl Meade, and Brianna-Ruth “Ruthie” Meade; one brother, Ron (Lona) VanHoose of Batavia, OH; one sister, Lula (David) Staten of Chattaroy, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday; September 20, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Chattaroy Church of God with Pastor Mike Bostic and Bro. Terry Varney officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 6:00 pm Friday evening at the Chattaroy Church of God.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with medical and final expenses.
