Jerry Franklin DeHart, 76, of Matewan, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from his home, surrounded by his family. Jerry was a former deputy with the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department and he was a member of the New Vision Assembly Church at Matewan, WV. His favorite pastime was “rednecking” with his buddies at the Buskirk Mini Mall.
In his final hours, he told his wife that he loved her and said, "Let's get married". She accepted his proposal and there within the comfort of the home they made together, between them and God, they renewed their vows and kissed.
Jerry was born January 20, 1947 at Red Jacket, WV, he was the son of the late Ermil Lee DeHart and Pansy Burgraff DeHart. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Roger DeHart.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 43 years, Yvonne Blankenship DeHart of Matewan, WV, his children, Michael and wife Becky Kennedy of Pikeville, KY, Becky and husband Frank Smith of Phelps, KY, and Steve Perkins of Dallas, TX, a sister, Mary Lou Blackburn of Williamson, WV, a sister-in-law, Judy DeHart of Ararat, NC, his grandchildren, Michael Kennedy II, Zachary Kennedy, Brooke "Bud" and husband Gabriel Carrillo, Seth and wife Alexis Starks-Mounts, and Macallister Perkins, his great grandchildren, Jackson Kennedy, Rachel Kennedy, Alyxandria Carrillo, Adrienne Carrillo, Asanna Mounts, and Atreus Mounts.
Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends. Special friends were Dave Rutherford, Harold Dotson, and Tim Treleven, along with a special neighbor, Chris Jaxon Chafin.
A celebration of life service will be held in remembrance of Jerry on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the New Vision Assembly Church at Hatfield Bottom; Matewan, WV with Pastor Ron Pruitt officiating.
The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 pm.
