Johnny Bruce “John” Williamson, 76, of Texas formerly of McAndrews, KY passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Richard A. Anderson Retirement Veteran Home in Houston, TX. Born July 17, 1946, he was the son of the late Sidney Williamson Jr. and Ruby Jean (Stacy) Williamson.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Deborah “Debbie (Fannin) Williamson, 2 brothers, Sidney Gary Williamson and James “Jimmy” Williamson, 2 nieces, Kimberly Williamson and Ericka Layne, 1 nephew, Richard “Scott” Layne, and a special cousin, Sam Stacy.
John was a former teacher for the Mingo County Board of Education until his retirement. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed in Thailand. Until moving from Kentucky, John was a member of the Toler Freewill Baptist Church at Toler, KY.
Survivors include his son, Bradley (Angela) Williamson of Pearland, TX, 4 grandchildren, Hope, Grace, Bryce, and Cole all of Pearland, TX, 3 sisters, Linda (Eugene) Sloan of Pittsburgh, PA, Sharon Schoeb of Pittsburgh, PA, and Kathy Backun of Conroe, TX, and sisters-in-law, Pam (David) Robinette of Hardy, KY, Madonna Williamson of McCarr, KY, and Nancy Williamson of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service honoring John will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Toler Freewill Baptist Church at Toler, KY with Pastor Roger Mullins officiating.
