Joseph Edward “Joey” Chapman Jr., 83, of Pigeon Roost Rd., Canada, KY passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at his home. Born January 10, 1938 at Canada, KY, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward Chapman Sr. and Betty Collins Chapman.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hillard, Arnold, Clarence, and Frankie Chapman, his sisters, Gladys Rose, Bertha Clevenger, Juanita Harshberger, and Mary Jane Sandifur, a daughter-in-law, Christina Chapman, and his father and mother-in-law, Fred and Anna Varney.
Joey was a graduate of Belfry High School and a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. For many years he was a stock clerk for the former Clay’s Market and Piggly Wiggly which later became Food City. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith and he loved being outside whether working around the house or being out in the mountains.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Varney Chapman of Canada, KY, his children, Joseph Edward Chapman III of Sidney, KY, Carolyn (Billy Ray) Caudill of Hatfield, KY, and Johnnie (Paula) Chapman of Canada, KY, a sister, Sarah Ann Nielson, his grandchildren, Joseph Dalton Chapman, Johnnie Ray Chapman, and Laura Jane Chapman. Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Elder Randall Thornsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapman Family Cemetery on Pigeon Roost at Canada, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
