Julius Varney, 72, of McCarr, KY passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born July 30, 1953 in Pike County, KY, he was the son of the late Garland and Lola Bostic Varney.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Debra Varney, and four brothers, Tommy Smith, Eugene Varney, Leroy Varney, and Jimmy Varney.
Julius was a retired coal miner after 32 years of service. He attended the Toler Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Gooslin Varney of McCarr, KY, his children, Ginger (Cole) Varney of Canada, KY, Julius Wade Varney of Florida, Shaunna (Mikie) Collins of Glade Spring, VA, and Savannah (Zack) Hall of Saltville, VA, his brothers, Garland (Kayla) Varney Jr. of Walton, KY, Iven Varney of Ridgewood, KY, and Bruce (Peggy) Varney of Canada, KY, his sisters, Mary Jane Slone of Cincinnati, OH, Gail (Gerald) Breeding of VA, and June (Cheyenne) Williams of Betsy Layne, KY, 7 grandchildren, special nieces, Tiffany Adkins and Chrystal Gail Smith, a special nephew, Frankie Varney, a special friend who was like his brother, Tobby Hensley of Turkey Creek, KY, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Pastor Roger Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Saturday and Sunday evenings at the funeral home with special services at 7:00 pm Sunday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with expenses.
