Lois Jean (Varner) Dotson, 85, of McCarr, KY passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Born December 14, 1935 at New Alma, KY, she was the daughter of the late William Cecil Varner and Pearlie (Sweeney) Varner.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Leon Dotson, an infant sister, Betty Jean Varner, two brothers, Clyde Dudley “Buddy” Varner and William Cecil “Bill” Varner, and two sisters, Shirley Mae Gooslin and Thelma Lee (Otis) Smith.
Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A dedicated homemaker, she also worked at the former Leckie’s Drug Store and Deacon Cleaners in Matewan, WV. She was a member of the Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Teresa Ann (Charles “Chuck”) Childers of Ransom, KY and Sherri Lynn (Luis) Mendoza of Northport, AL, one brother, Danny Ray (Sandy) Varner of Matewan, WV, three sisters, Donna Louise (Ralph) Hunt of Colbert, GA, Fannie Lou (Eddie) Orrell of Portsmouth, OH, and Betty Sue (the late Ronnie) Boyd of Watertown, SD, her grandchildren, Austin Christopher (Ashley) Childers, Alex Luis Mendoza, Blake Ashton Mendoza, Cameron Paige Childers, Raygan Aleah Mendoza and great-granddaughter, Rosalie Mae Childers due in April, brother-in-law, Clarence Gooslin of McCarr, KY, sister-in-law, Marva Jean Varner of North Ridgeville, OH, and a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Dotson Cemetery at McCarr, KY with Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating. Burial will follow with Austin Childers, Alex Mendoza, Blake Mendoza, Herbie Dotson, Hobie Dotson, Luis Mendoza, Chuck Childers, and Clarence Edward Gooslin serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Skip Orrell.
Due to the COVID19 health situation, all attendees must wear a mask or facial covering and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
