Mark Allen Yates

Mark Allen Yates, formerly of Williamson, WV passed away on August 17, 2022 in Dayton, OH where he spent his final days surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bertral “Bert” Yates and Athalie Sparks Yates, two brothers- David Lynn Yates and Bert Yates Jr, brother in law Anthony “Tony” John Dare, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Born October 17, 1957 in Williamson, WV, Mark grew up in Rawl, WV and attended Williamson High School. He was a member of Sprigg Independent Baptist Church for most of his life. From a young age, Mark enjoyed mathematics and engineering and became a surveyor, following in his father’s footsteps. He loved being outdoors and spent countless hours outside, as well as in the coal mines, for his job. As a lover of nature, Mark had a huge fondness for animals, especially cats. He treasured the time he spent throughout his life in the hills of WV and eastern KY. Mark also loved rock and roll music and had a very extensive record collection at one point.  

Mark enjoyed reading and studied his Bible frequently. Although he was plagued with many trials and heartaches throughout his life, he loved the Lord and knew a lot about theology. Everyone who knew Mark knew of his silly sense of humor and wit. There are not enough words to describe just how much he will be missed.        

Mark is survived by one daughter Krystin Yates (Jarrad) Castle, a granddaughter, Emery Blaire Castle, two sisters Susan Yates Dare and Sharon Yates (Jim) Jones, nephews Benjamin (Lisa) Yates, Jim Dare, and Thomas Dare, nieces Sabrina Yates Doll and Sarah Dare (David) Barger, great nieces Autumn Doll, Zoe Yates, and Olivia Doll, and a great nephew, Zander Yates. Additional survivors include aunts, Mary Hardin and Frances “Tune” Lambert, an uncle, Ken (Patty) Yates, significant other Glenda Dashko, and a host of cousins, friends and other family. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 pm.
