Randall Bartley, 70, of McCarr, KY passed away peacefully and went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Pikeville Medical Center. Saved by grace and steady in his walk with the Lord, Randall’s faith in Jesus Christ shaped the way he loved his family, stood by his friends, and met each day with humility and kindness.
Born Claude Randall Bartley, he went by his middle name, “Randall”, among family and friends, and was known as “Cleo” to his buddies in the coal mines. A proud coal miner, he was respected for his work ethic, loyalty, and quiet humor. A lifelong sports fan, he cheered for the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and the Kentucky Wildcats, and he loved sharing stories from his softball playing days. As one friend put it, “How can you not love Randall?”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Margaret Belcher Bartley; his sisters, Debbie, Clara, and Linda; his brother, Danny; his son Jefferson Franklin Taylor III; and his faithful dogs, Buster and Stormy.
Randall was a devoted husband, a proud dad, a beloved papaw, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his loving wife, “My Linda”; his children, Matthew Ryan and Ashton Bartley and Jennifer Lynn Taylor; his grandchildren, Owen Lane Bartley and Lucy Jane Bartley – from whom he was so happy to be called “Papaw”; his sisters, Beverly Bartley Tackett, Judy Bartley (Mike) Belcher, Trish Dotson Runyon, and Susan Dotson Fields; brothers, Jim Runyon and George Fields; his other mother, Joann Dotson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless family and friends who loved him deeply. He also leaves behind his special “fur baby”, Ziva.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Pikeville Medical Center – including the nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and staff – for their attentive and loving care. They are also especially grateful to Randall’s brother and sister, Jim and Trish Runyon for their steadfast support throughout Randall’s illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 12:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with his friend and former pastor, Bro. Jim Patton of the Pikeville Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Dotson Cemetery at McCarr, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will begin to receive friends at 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home.
