Ray Walter Murphy

Ray Walter Murphy, 96, of Williamson, WV passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Trinity of Mingo Healthcare Center in Williamson, WV.  Born June 29, 1927 in Iaeger, WV, he was the son of the late Jesse and Jane (Curry) Murphy. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna W. Murphy, and four brothers, Jack, Jesse Jr., Ted, and Bob Murphy. 

Ray was veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He retired as an engine serviceman from the N&W Railroad after 42 years of service, and he was a longtime member of the East Williamson Baptist Church. 

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Dee) Murphy of South Williamson, KY and John (Dawn) Murphy of Fairmont, WV, one daughter, Sharon Clagett of Morgantown, WV, two sisters, Joan (Mickey) Damron of Fort Mohave, AZ and Jean (the late Donnie) Deuvall of Hollywood, MD, his grandchildren, Jason Murphy, Jacob Murphy, Brice Clagett, Bronwyn Clagett, Sarah Murphy (Sean) Hawkinberry, and Elizabeth Murphy. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the East Williamson Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Lovell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am Friday at the East Williamson Baptist Church.
