Ronald Eugene “Ronnie” Murphy, 72, of Georgetown, KY formerly of Beech Creek, WV passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at his home. Born March 26, 1951 at Goody, KY, he was the son of the late Walter B. and Violet Hatfield Murphy.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dennis Cisco.
Ronnie was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during the Vietnam War. He was retired coal miner from Ziegler/Old Ben Coal Company and a member of the UMWA Local 1440. Ronnie was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved to be in the hills digging ginseng. He was a longtime member of the Beech Creek Church of Christ where he served as a Bible class teacher and song leader for many years.
Survivors include his daughter with whom he made his home, Terri (Rodney) Lell of Georgetown, KY, his son, Ron (Ann Marie) Murphy of Sparta, TN, his siblings, Rita Cisco of Meador, WV, David (Darlene) Murphy of Beech Creek, WV, Carol (Bruce) Murphy of Beech Creek, WV, and Shelia (Joe Paul) Goad of Beech Creek, WV, his grandchildren, Brandon (Ariel) Fields, Connor Murphy, and Ayla Murphy, a special uncle, James (Nellie) Hatfield of Huntington, WV, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with his brother David Murphy and brother-in-law Bruce Murphy officiating. Military honors will be presented afterward by the DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, KY. Burial will take place in the Hatfield Cemetery at Beech Creek, WV with Jody Goad, Josh Murphy, Jeremy Murphy, Wally Goad, Paul Blankenship, Arnold Mahon, and David Williams serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Saturday evening at the funeral home with services at 7:00 pm.
