Stella Blankenship, 91, of Hardy, KY passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. Born February 22, 1929 at Hardy, KY, she was the daughter of the late Canie B. and Virgie Starr Thomas.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Ray Blankenship, three brothers, Earl Thomas, Johnny Warden, and Leo Thomas, three sisters, Elizabeth LePage, Gladys Fleming, and Thelma Scott, and a sister-in-law Sue (the late Judge Robert J.) Staker.
Stella was a retired long time educator. She started her teaching career at the age of 18 at the old Road Fork School, now known as Forest Hills. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Pikeville College and retired from the Pike County and Mingo County school systems. She attended the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Rick Blankenship of Hardy, KY, nieces, Becky Scott (Jim) Mullins of Hardy, KY and their daughter, Sarah Mullins, of Mt. Washington, KY, Linda LePage (Robert) Lewis of Davie, FL, and their children, Diane and Greg, Sharon Warden Harwood of Salem, VA, nephews, Steve (Denise) LePage of Hudson, FL and their daughter, Robin Mendelsohn, Seth Staker, and Paul Michael Thomas of Hardy, KY, a great nephew, Bobby Phillips, and great-niece, Lora Phillips Thompson, special friends, Jonathan, Michelle, and Atlanta Meece, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 at 12:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Father Nick England officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
