Timothy Gary Yates, age 68 of Hatfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Tim was an evangelist, minister, and until his illness required him to step away, the Pastor of the Sprigg Free Will Baptist Church. Professionally, Tim spent many years working in the coal industry.
Tim enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing his infectious laughter, cheering on the Mountaineers, sport coats and khakis, and most of all, anything that rolled off a Volkswagen assembly line.
Tim was born at Merrimac, West Virginia, January 4, 1955, a son of the late Clifford and Patsy Yates.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patina Louise Yates; and by brothers; Rodney Yates, Donald Yates, and sister, Pamela Yates.
Tim is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Dianne Yates, children; Timothy J. Yates (Stephanie) of Harpers Ferry, WV, Chanda Yates of Pikeville, KY, and Colina Yates of Dayton, OH, granddaughter Amber Slone, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald Yates, Thomas Yates, Terry Yates, and Theresa Yates of Merrimac, WV, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Hatfield Funeral Chapel, in Toler, KY, with Danny Mikles officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Yates family plot of the McCoy Cemetery in Merrimac, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
