Wanda Jolene Joplin, 75, of Huntington, WV and longtime resident of Red Jacket, WV departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2024 in Huntington, WV. Born June 23, 1949 in Williamson, WV, she was the daughter of the late Drue E. and Odessa Martin Culumns Sr.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James I. “Butch” Joplin Sr., daughter, Tamika N. Joplin, sister, Ion Parrish, and brother, Drue E. Culumns Jr.
Mrs. Joplin was a retired teacher with the Mingo County Board of Education. Known by numerous students as Mrs. J, her years of dedication in teaching math, and her genuine care touched the lives of a multitude of students. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church at Red Jacket, WV and a member of the Eastern Star.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kelvin Spotts, Tara Wilder, James I. “J.I.” Joplin Jr., and Deidre Joplin, her grandchildren, Jazmonique Spotts, Helena Spotts, Madison Sergent, Tiara Wilder, Cherokee Dickerson, Derrick Little, Tyshira Joplin, Kaden Smith, Keziah Joplin, Jreson Joplin, Aashana Joplin-Jackson, Keathan Joplin-Jackson, Keagan Scales, Alexis Little and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are her niece, Adrene Parrish, nephew, Maurice (Gail) Parrish, 2 brothers-in-law, Ronald (Harriet) Joplin and Raymond (Donna) Joplin, and 2 sisters-in-law, Betty (Pleasant) Joplin and Sharon Joplin, a special life long friend, Eileen Bell, a host of former students, and friends.
Homegoing services will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church at Red Jacket, WV with Rev. Michael Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.
