Wilson (Willo) Joseph Chafin

Wilson (Willo) Joseph Chafin, 76, of Matewan, WV passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Pikeville Medical Center.  Born January 4, 1948 in Matewan, WV, he was the son of the late Clyde and Frances Pirotte Chafin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Chafin.

After graduating from Magnolia High School in 1966, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served a 4 year term.  After his service to his country, Wilson worked throughout his life in the construction business, sales business, convenient store business, and commercial and private piloting.  His hobbies included riding motorcycles and coaching football with his best buddy, Yogi Kinder.  Wilson never met a stranger.  He was a member of the Matewan United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sandy Chafin of Matewan, WV, his daughter, Jennifer Chafin of Paris, France, his son, Wilson Chafin Jr. of Aubrey, TX, 2 step daughters, Tara (Jeremiah) Anderson of Fernandina Beach, FL and Crystal Collins Cox of Matewan, WV, 2 sisters, Betty (Col. Henry) Fitzgerald of Culpeper, VA and Peggy (Gene) Sutton of Cove, OR, grandchildren, Mayan Darbyshire of Paris, France, Bennett Cox II and companion Tesla Gibson who was his special friend and caregiver of Matewan, WV, Ashton Linkenhoker of Hardy, KY, and Nevaeh Blackwell of Belfry, KY.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews from all over the United States and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, KY with Rev. David Stratton officiating.  Military honors will be presented by the DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, KY.  Burial will follow in the Blackburn Cemetery at Meta, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
